An ophthalmic technician works closely with the physicians to facilitate examinations. The technicians will call patients into the exam room and perform initial work-ups. Exam workups include patient history, medications, and allergies. Technicians measure vision, the patient's current glasses, and performs the measurement for new glasses. There is some scribing for the doctor, with all information being directly entered into the electronic health record. The technician uses various diagnostic testing equipment in the office, including photographic equipment, ultrasound equipment and automated refractive equipment. We are willing to train the right applicant. Technicians require college level coursework, with either a Bachelors or Associates degree.
Receptionists are the front line of the office. They are often the first contact the public has with us. As such reception staff must be pleasant, outgoing, good listeners and attentive. Multi-tasking is an important attribute as phones must be answered and patients in the office need to be checked-in and out. Computer proficiency is a must. Multiple languages are a plus.
Medical Billers are responsible for follow-up billing with primary and secondary insurance carriers, as well as reviewing claims prior to processing. Medical billers also answer patient questions about billing when they can. Familiarity with billing codes and policies is mandatory for this position.
